1948 Eiffel Chair, Black-Metal

Introduced in 1948, the molded shell chair was awarded 2nd place in a prestigious design competition for affordable furniture, held by the Museum of Modern Art. Its versatile shell fits various base types. The series' 'Dowel' name refers to its Wooden Peg Leg design. The wooden dowels have slots for metal plates that bolt underneath. Wire cross bracing ensures structural strength and adds an industrial design aspect. Like its original, the reproduction has a wood and steel base with an ABS plastic shell featuring a soft satin finish. Chrome weld points in the base are finely sanded and sealed. The design includes a 'waterfall curved edge' for comfort at the back of the legs. Both frame and seat dimensions closely match the original 1948 design and include non-marking floor protectors.
