1948 Eiffel Chair, White-Wood

Originally designed in 1948, the molded shell chair earned 2nd place out of 3000 entries in the International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design, sponsored by the Museum of Modern Art. The shell was crafted to accommodate various base types. 'Dowel' refers to the Wooden Peg Leg design in this series. Wooden dowels have slots for metal plates that bolt to the underside. Wire cross bracing adds both structural stability and an industrial design element. The chair features a wood and steel base with an ABS plastic shell in a soft satin sheen. Weld points on the chrome elements of the Eiffel base are sanded and sealed. The reproduction includes a 'waterfall curved edge' for seating comfort, particularly at the back of the legs. The frame and seat dimensions adhere closely to the 1948 original. It includes non-marking floor protectors.
