El Palomar Stoneware Dessert Bowl

$19.76

Stoneware is known for its durability and resilience. Created from a blend of finely ground clay, inelastic earth, and rock, stoneware is defined by its composition and the high firing temperature needed to achieve its optimal hardness. Ceramica el Palomar de las Margaritas (El Palomar) has been crafting stoneware in Tlaquepaque, Mexico, since 1964, with a history that includes two presidential commissions and cross-border business ties. The studio, including renowned ceramist Ken Edwards, pioneered high-quality, high-fired stoneware in Mexico. Using a unique mix of ingredients sourced from Celaya's mines in central Mexico, El Palomar ensures a consistent, lead-free mixture for all its pottery. Each piece takes 28 days to produce due to the hardness and distinct nature of the clay mixture. Classified as high-fire stoneware, El Palomar's pottery reaches kiln temperatures of 2,350 F (1,287 C), resulting in a vitrified (glass-like) surface that is watertight, microwave safe, oven safe, dishwasher safe, and highly durable for daily use. The intricate patterns and designs are a family tradition overseen by the Kent family, who manage the studio's daily operations, including the hand-painting and finishing of each piece. El Palomar stoneware represents artisanal craftsmanship at its finest, creating pieces meant to be cherished for generations. Discover the design that resonates with you.
