During the 1930s, Eero Saarinen developed a collection of plywood chairs with organic shapes. These later achieved recognition by winning the 1940 Organic Design in Home Furnishings competition sponsored by MoMA. Saarinen's work led him to create a chair that aimed to offer outstanding comfort.
