During the 1930s, Eero Saarinen developed a series of plywood chairs with organic shapes. These designs later won the MoMA-sponsored 1940 Organic Design in Home Furnishings competition. Inspired by this success, Saarinen aimed to create a chair that offered exceptional comfort and functionality.
