In the 1930s, Eero Saarinen developed a series of organically-shaped plywood chairs. These designs won the 1940 Organic Design in Home Furnishings competition, sponsored by MoMA. Inspired by this success, Saarinen went on to design a chair that aimed to offer exceptional comfort.
