During the 1930s, Eero Saarinen developed a series of organically-shaped plywood chairs. These designs later won the 1940 Organic Design in Home Furnishings competition, sponsored by MoMA. Inspired by this success, Saarinen aimed to create a chair that would offer exceptional comfort.
