Saarinen Executive Leather Armchair - Wood Legs Vegan Leather-White / Black Stain

$779.00

In the 1930s, Eero Saarinen developed a collection of organically-shaped plywood chairs, winning the MoMA's 1940 competition for Organic Design in Home Furnishings. This led Saarinen to design an armchair designed for comfort solely from its shell. His notable Executive Side Chair and matching armchair demonstrate this, earning several awards, including the 1969 Museum of Modern Art Award and the West Germany Federal Award for Industrial Design. Featuring a molded fiberglass shell with high-elasticity foam wrapped in premium leather and supported by solid wood legs available in various finishes, the chair is fully assembled and offers customization options. Born in Finland, Saarinen moved to Michigan in 1923 with his family, where his father's influence shaped his architectural path. Saarinen's works contributed significantly to midcentury modernism despite criticism for his stylistic flexibility. Following his father's passing in 1950, he became a principal partner in Saarinen & Associates, propelling his work to the cover of Time magazine in 1956. Leaving an enduring mark on post-war America, Saarinen's career was cut short by his death in 1961. Contributions by his partners completed his projects, preserving his legacy.
