OVERVIEW

Mid century modern nightstand with a drawer and open shelf - pictured in walnut. This one has some slight variation from my other work; first, the front does not have the slides showing through; second, the base is a thicker steel (1.25" instead of 1") and is coated black instead of clear over raw steel.

DESIGN

The standard open shelf is great, but sometimes in life you need a drawer because you have stuff, and with this table you can have both. The drawer itself is a finely crafted box, 100% hardwood throughout, dovetailed corners, and a custom made pull. I decided to let the slides show through on the front like in an old clockmakers cabinet I once saw; to me it is a beautiful detail of form and function. It has the clean lines and open airy feel of a mid-century inspired piece but also has a luxurious feel in person with it’s high quality materials, fine finish, and fine details. The dovetailed corners are a signature of the table which are both beautiful and strong, they are visually subtle but noticed when close up. The base has a refined form and an industrial patina.

CONSTRUCTION

You are probably reading this because the design moved you and it is in your price-point, I get that and am glad you’re here. However, you will be glad to know that if you buy from me you are also getting something of the highest quality. The entire table is personally handmade in my shop from raw materials, from the welded steel base to the hardwood top, no outsourcing. For the woodwork I choose joinery befitting fine furniture. I do all the metal fabrication in my shop using a custom process developed for my design.

DRAWER

Made of 100% hardwood in the wood species you choose, front, back, bottom, and sides. The construction of the drawer maximizes internal space available; by comparison a mechanical slide (which I don't use) requires a construction that loses the thickness of a board at the front (3/4") , from 1/4" to 1/2" inches on each side, and as much as much as 2" to 3" at the back. In my pieces, the back of the drawer forms the back of the table, which not only gives more drawer space, but I think makes it more beautiful as well.

BASE

I start from raw, hot-rolled steel and do all of the fabrication myself. This has allowed me to explore unique designs, but also allows me to fully customize size options.
