The Shinko Oriental Pear is a late-season, disease-resistant Asian pear that stores well The fruit is medium to large (14-20 oz.), round and flattish, with an attractive brown to golden-brown russet. The flesh is yellowish-white, crisp and juicy with a distinctively rich, sweet flavor. The Shinko Asian pear tree is also called an apple pear as it is shaped like an apple. Crops should be thinned to prevent limb breakage and maintain annual bearing. Shinko is much less susceptible to fireblight than most Asian pears. The average size of this plant is 15 ft. to 20 ft. high and 15 ft. to 20 ft. wide. The Shinko requires full Sun and only occasional watering Requires 450-500 chill hours.
