Petrified Wood Washbasin Set
This set of petrified wood wash bowls is made from the same stump. The curves match exactly when you place both sinks on top of each other. However, there may be a lot of color difference in the set because every piece of a stump of petrified wood is truly unique. With a sink made of petrified wood, you bring a unique piece of history that is millions of years old into your home. Petrified wood or fossil wood is created because trees and often even entire forests are buried under the earth during a landslide after extreme rain. Or they are completely covered by the ash that is released during a large volcanic eruption. Because oxygen can no longer reach these trees afterwards, the decay process takes place in a few million years. The groundwater that drips through the earth or ash takes along minerals that are deposited in the cells of the trees. These minerals replace the tree cells when they eventually rot away after millions of years, after which the wood is petrified. The fossilized wood we use comes from the species dipterocarpus which is a deciduous tree that still exists today and often occurs in tropical forests in Asia. The fossilized wood we use is about 20 million years old.
