Pair Barcelona Chairs and Ottomans van der Rohe for Knoll
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (German-American, 1886-1969), Pair of Barcelona Chairs and Ottomans, manufactured by Knoll Inc., originally designed 1929, these examples c.2005, stainless steel and black volo leather, paper label to underside of one chair and one ottoman, chairs 30 x 30 x 30.5 inches, ottomans 15 x 24 x 24 inches. Provenance: Martin Prekop, former Dean of Carnegie Mellon College of Fine Arts. Prekop is an accomplished artist whose works can be found in the permanent collections of the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Seattle Art Museum, among others. As a professor, Martin was highly regarded for his technical skill and breadth of knowledge in photography and painting and his incisive critique mixed with wit and humor. Never afraid to tackle problems himself, Martin established the Zebra Lounge and built and painted all its original furniture.
