Plywood Coffee Table, Walnut
Designed with pre-World War II plywood molding technology developed by the Eames, the original table's production was delayed due to the United States' entry into WWII. During the war, Charles Eames financially benefited by producing molded plywood splints for the US Military, modeled after his own leg, which refined his plywood molding technique. This experience led to the creation of the Plywood Coffee Table, first mass-produced in 1946. This table is a faithful reproduction of the iconic design released by Charles Eames shortly after WWII. Utilizing the same ply technology as the plywood lounge and dining chairs, Eames crafted a lightweight structure with a contoured top and curved legs. This modern Plywood Coffee Table pairs well with plywood dining chairs or modern sofas and lounge chairs. It features a heat and pressure-molded plywood top and legs, with the base and top constructed from multiple cross-ply hardwood layers. The kiln-dried plywood is stabilized to a 12.5% moisture content level. The table top has a saucer bevel contour, and the legs are molded and tapered, true to the original design. The hardwood top layer is triple fine sanded for smoothness, and the UV-cured polyurethane finish resists scratches. The satin luster finish replicates the original low sheen. Made from North American Walnut, the table has a Janka Hardness Rating of 1010 PSI. Dimensions: Height - 16.5 inches, Diameter - 34.3 inches.
