Gorky Gonzalez Long Majolica Platter
$65.65
Born in 1939 in Morelia, Mexico, Gorky Gonzalez pursued a passion for the arts. In the 1960s, he focused on reviving Colonial Majolica, a pottery style with dual glazing once popular in Italy and during Spanish colonial times. Gorky viewed traditional Majolica as a valuable craft with deep cultural roots relevant to the region's history. Therefore, in 1965, he and his wife Toshiko established a ceramic studio dedicated exclusively to Majolica. Nearly 50 years later, Gorky's commitment to genuine craftsmanship defines his pottery studio. Today, his studio is among the most impactful ceramic establishments in Mexico, and in 1992 Gorky was honored with Mexico's National Award of Science and Arts for Popular Art and Traditions.
