El Palomar de las Margaritas (El Palomar) has been creating stoneware in Tlaquepaque, Mexico, since 1964, with a history that includes presidential commissions and cross-border business ties. The collaboration with renowned ceramist Ken Edwards helped El Palomar become a pioneer of high-quality, high-fired stoneware in Mexico. Using a unique mix of ingredients sourced from Celaya's mines in central Mexico, El Palomar ensures a consistent, lead-free mixture for its pottery. Each piece requires 28 days to produce due to the hardness and unique nature of the clay mixture. Classified as high-fire stoneware, kiln temperatures reach 2,350 F (1,287 C), resulting in a vitrified surface that makes the stoneware watertight, microwave safe, oven safe, dishwasher safe, and extremely durable for daily use. The intricate patterns and designs are a family heritage, with the Kent family overseeing production, including hand-painting and finishing each piece.
