Stoneware is known for its durability, crafted from a blend of finely ground clay and rock. Since 1964, Ceramica el Palomar de las Margaritas has produced stoneware in Tlaquepaque, Mexico. The company, with notable ceramist Ken Edwards, was an innovator of high-quality stoneware in Mexico. Using a special clay mix from Celaya mines, El Palomar ensures a consistent, lead-free product. Each piece takes 28 days to make. Fired at temperatures reaching 2,350 F, the stoneware has a glass-like, watertight surface, safe for microwave, oven, and dishwasher use.
