El Palomar Stoneware Dessert/Bread Plate
Stoneware is known for its durability and sturdiness. Created from a blend of finely ground clay, inelastic earth, and rock, it is defined by its composition and the high firing temperature needed to achieve its optimal hardness. El Palomar de las Margaritas, a company with a rich history including two presidential commissions and cross-border business ties, has been crafting stoneware in Tlaquepaque, Mexico, since 1964. This venture, involving talents like renowned ceramist Ken Edwards, was the first to produce high-quality, high-fired stoneware in Mexico. Using a unique mix of ingredients sourced from Celaya's mines in central Mexico, El Palomar ensures a consistent, lead-free blend for all its pottery. Due to the distinct nature of the clay mixture, each piece of stoneware requires 28 days to complete. Classified as high-fire stoneware, El Palomar's pieces are fired at temperatures reaching 2,350 F (1,287 C), resulting in a vitrified surface that is watertight, microwave safe, oven safe, dishwasher safe, and highly durable for daily use. The intricate patterns and designs have been a family tradition that continues today, with the Kent family overseeing production and the hand-painting of each piece. El Palomar stoneware represents fine artisanal work, creating pieces meant to be treasured and passed down through generations. Discover a design that resonates with you.
