The Le Corbusier sofa set series was originally designed in 1928 for the Maison La Roche house in Paris. The design is the modernist response to the traditional club chair. The LC2 Petit (or Petite) series is the smaller of two versions Le corbusier created. Even in 1928, apartment living in Paris required a well thought out compact furniture design. Le Corbusier recognized this and designed for the need. A noticeable feature of the LC2 is the separate appearance of the additional top seat cushion. Remarkably comfortable and compact, Le Corbusier often referred to the pieces as "cushion baskets". A striking feature of the LC2 is the externalized metal frame supporting the base, extending as the legs and running the entire length of the piece. Its not just the front of the LC2 that is attractive, the metal frame work means design detail from the sides and back allowing for easy placement even in the middle of a room. When designing in small spaces, the ability to place items in the middle of the room is no small features. The design is available in a 1, 2 and 3 seat version that share the same overall dimensions with the exception of the length. The Le Corbusier LC2 set is often used in a group of 2 chairs (1 seat version) and a single sofa or love (2 or 3 seat versions).
