PK22 Chair, Black Premium Leather
The PK22, launched in 1956, combines a modernist look with unexpectedly comfortable seating. Its stainless steel and leather design quickly won awards, becoming part of the Museum of Modern Art's collection in New York. Poul Kjærholm crafted the PK22 with elements inspired by a spring's structure, featuring a pair of legs, side rails, and 'U' shaped crossbars for support. This reproduction is made from brushed satin stainless steel for strength and resistance to corrosion, with high-density cushions covered in premium genuine leather. Scandinavian designers often use wood, but Poul innovatively used stainless steel and leather, accented with wood when appropriate. His designs earned him the Lunning Award in 1958 and the Grand Prize at the Milan Trennali in 1957 and 1960. The Kardiel reproduction maintains the original's details, ensuring authenticity in materials and craftsmanship. A small fraction of the world's leather meets the criteria for 100% top grain aniline, which involves soaking hides in aniline dyes for a natural color. This top grain leather provides comfort, durability, and a natural look, unlike split grain leather that is embossed to mimic the genuine look. Kardiel offers reliable delivery services across the U.S., Canada, Hawaii, and Alaska, including curbside and full-service options.
