Tulip Armchair, Red Wool
Designed in 1955 by Eero Saarinen, the Tulip Chair pairs well with the Tulip Table. It received several design awards, including from the Design Center Stuggart in 1962 and the Museum of Modern Art in 1969. Known for its futuristic design, it gained popularity on the Star Trek show from 1966 to 1969. Originally made of fiberglass, many chairs are still used today despite current reproductions being made of ABS plastic. Plastic chairs tend to break under stress over time. Fiberglass was chosen by Eero Saarinen for its lasting structure and shiny surface. Kardiel’s reproduction closely respects the original dimensions and design. The molded fiberglass shell sits on a cast aluminum base, creating a smooth, glossy appearance. Featuring a true-to-original cast aluminum base with Rilsan finish, the chair also has a molded fiberglass upper shell. The seat cushion is made of multi-density foam and covered in tweed cashmere wool. Additional features include a 360-degree swivel mechanism and a removable seat cushion for easy maintenance. Measuring 23" width, 24" depth, and 32" height, with a seat height of 17.5" and a 15" diameter circular base, the chair comes with floor protection caps and has coordinating side chairs available. It includes a three-year limited warranty. Cashmere wool is sourced from Cashmere goats and involves a de-hairing process for fine under-down, ready to be dyed and spun into yarn.
