Making the Icon
Legend has it, a French tourist visited Acapulco in 1953 and was uncomfortably hot sitting on a solidly-constructed chair. As the story goes, the French tourist was inspired by the open string construction of the local traditional Mayan hammocks. In this context, he designed a modernist comfortable outdoor lounge chair. Acapulco was the result and quickly grew to icon status for modernist outdoor themes.
The Acapulco is constructed using flexible rubberized plastic cords for hours of lounging comfort. The cords are handwoven over a steel tubular frame, powder-coated for improved corrosion resistance. In all its iterations, the Acapulco chair shows its roots in folk design, modernism, and tropical Hollywood glamour. Acapulco is outdoor safe, maintain by covering or storing indoors during inclement weather and when not in use. Easily wipes clean using a soft dry or damp cloth.
