Saarinen Executive Armchair - Steel Legs
During the 1930s, Eero Saarinen ventured into the realm of organically-shaped plywood chairs, which garnered acclaim as they clinched victory in the 1940 Organic Design in Home Furnishings competition sponsored by MoMA. Inspired by these successes, Saarinen set out to design a chair that prioritized extraordinary comfort through its shell design alone, independent of the cushioning. The outcome was the luxurious and sculptural Executive Side Chair and its counterpart, the Executive Armchair. These designs were lauded with prestigious awards, including the 1969 Museum of Modern Art Award and the West Germany Federal Award for Industrial Design, marking their lasting impact on the world of furniture design.
