PLATFORM MID-CENTURY MODERN SOFA
Created in the mid-1950s, Platform Sofa is comfortable and stunning from the front, back and sides. The Platform sofa owes its comfortable longevity to premium ingredients like the Metal Sinuous No Sag "S Coil" Suspension seat platform and amply overstuffed Down Feather Cushions. Furthermore, it is architecturally suspended over a solid American Ash wooden platform base deriving its structural inspiration from the concept of tree-house living. The design of the Platform sofa is minimal and sleek with clean lines. A modernist 3 panel fixed back and comfortably placed arms upward from a curve at the base. One of the intriguing differences you will find in the design of the Platform Sofa is the expansive wood platform that suspends the sofa from the surface of the floor.
INSPIRED BY TREE-HOUSE ARCHITECTURE
An icon of mid-century modern sofa design, the Platform sofa is well-known for its architectural wooden base “Platform”. Originating from the concept of a tree-house, the Platform is substantial in dimension and created from Solid varnished unstained American Ash timbers in their natural color. This hefty architectural element features a specific lean-back angled pitch and spans the front, sides, and underneath that artistically extends upward supporting a significant portion of the back. The width of the wooden frame exceeds the upholstered sofa thus, creating interesting angled space in the back between the frame and the sofa at the base. As it moves up from the back towards the sofa, the frame then angles back, meeting and cradling the rear of the sofa on each end. The wooden platform is a solid and architecturally stunning element from all angles allowing you to place the sofa at any location in the room.
The 3 individual, mid-century modern seat cushion design, features a multi-density foam core, but you may notice they are plump and amply overstuffed with down feathers. A richly comfortable seating experience results from such a streamlined mid-century modern design. The Platform sofa is a substantial modernist sofa design for a relatively small investment. From the wooden frame, down to the feather stuffed cushions and the stitching of the upholstery, the platform sofa is crafted entirely by hand.
ABOUT VINTAGE TAILORED TWILL
Twill is an interwoven knit fabric. The thread takes turns in an over and under weave forming a crooked yet overall lineal rectangle pattern that can be discerned at close range. The pattern exists but appears somewhat random when viewed from a normal distance. Vintage Tailored Twill features a finer, tightly tailored flat weave appearance.
Vintage Tailored Twill provides perhaps a more refined, tailored appearance than that of a typical coarse twill. It relies on the multi-tone nature of the fabric strands themselves to provide the appearance of depth of texture.
ABOUT NATURAL ASH
The natural wood presents lighter cooler tones. Natural ash is prized for its clean grain that mixes well with modernist furniture styles.
