Copenhagen '45 Mid-Century Modern Loveseat
Recognized as a symbol of mid-century modern design. The design is airy and conceptually elegant. Originally designed in 1945 by Danish designer Finn Juhl. In crafting this masterpiece, the Kardiel Copenhagen '45 uses quality materials such as solid American Ash and durable twill upholstery while staying true to the original design details.
Making the Icon
In 1945, Juhl introduced the original 45 chair. The design freed the seat and back from the chair frame. This resulted in a visually floating design with an architecturally interesting frame. The reproduction includes a solid American Ash wood frame. The windswept silhouette is created by elevating the arms and drawing down the mid-seat frame toward the back. Comfort comes from foam-wrapped and upholstered frame and plush seat cushion.
The back's subtle curve provides comfort by cradling its user. Sculptural flow is achieved with curved timbers, avoiding sharp 90-degree angles. Natural solid American Ash is used for the frame, treated with an ash stain and clear polyurethane. The 45 design is challenging to replicate due to its detailed craftsmanship.
About Vintage Tailored Twill
Twill is a knitted fabric with an over-and-under weave creating a pattern of angular rectangles visible up close. At normal viewing distance, the pattern appears random. Vintage Tailored Twill features a more refined flat weave than traditional coarse twill. Its visual depth comes from the fabric strands' multi-tone nature.
About American Ash
Ash has lighter, cooler tones. It's valued for its clean grain, complementing modern furniture styles.
