Eero first created the chairs in the mid-50s and the table in the early 60s. The series soon garnered awards from The Design Center Stuttgart in 1962 and the Museum of Modern Art in 1969. The chair is notable for its futuristic shape. Between 1966 and 1969, it gained popularity from being featured on the bridge of Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek. It remains a modern classic icon in dining. Fiberglass and cast aluminum reproductions, similar to the original, ensure longevity.
Making the Icon of modernist table sets
Several original Tulip Table sets, crafted from fiberglass, are still in use. Prior to production, Eero found that while fiberglass ensured color and sheen consistency, it couldn't support the table structurally. He then opted for a cast aluminum base. By coating the aluminum with Rilsan, he matched the gloss and color of fiberglass. Kardiel reproduces the seat cushion in wool, echoing the original. While many replicas today use plastic, fiberglass versions prove more durable. Fiberglass Tulip chairs are costlier than plastic but offer better longevity and appearance, similar to the original.

About Cashmere Wool Tweed
Cashmere wool derives from Cashmere goats. The goats' double fleece includes a soft undercoat and coarser guard hair. For processing, the coarse hair is mechanically separated, leaving fine “cashmere” for dyeing and yarn conversion.
