Many original Tulip Table sets made of fiberglass are still in use today. Before production, Eero found that while fiberglass ensured color and sheen consistency, it couldn't support the table base. He switched to a cast aluminum base and used a Rilsan coating to match the fiberglass gloss and color. Kardiel's reproduction seat cushion is made of wool, unlike many reproductions that use plastic and synthetic fabric. Kardiel’s reproduction respects the original design and materials. The chairs feature solid white molded fiberglass shells on a cast aluminum base, unlike many plastic reproductions that break under stress. While fiberglass chairs cost more than plastic, the difference in longevity and appearance is significant.
Cashmere wool fiber comes from Cashmere goats, which produce a double fleece consisting of a fine, soft undercoat mingled with a coarser outer coating called Guard Hair. The fine under-down must be de-haired, a process that separates coarse hairs from fine hairs. After de-hairing, the premium cashmere is ready to be dyed and converted into yarn.
