Making the 1940 Modernist Icon

The original design (model 71 armchair) was created in 1948 as the second chair (1st being womb) in Saarinen’s seating collection. You may notice that the 71 armchair shares the depressed cone shape design of the womb chair. The 71 armchair was originally built for use at the General Motors Technical School. Its elegant shape made it popular for use in residential spaces. Today, it is an icon representing the simple, practical design theory present in many mid-century modern pieces. The Kardiel reproduction of the 71 armchair features a bent-ply wood leg connected to an internal molded polymer shell. The chair is wrapped with multi-density foam and upholstered in a premium, durable wool fabric. Whether being used as a sitting, accent or dining chair, the Saarinen model is a beautiful and practical piece to compliment your modernist collection.

Finnish Modern Furniture Designer Eero Saarinen created the the Model 71 Arm & Side Chair in 1948 at the beginning period of what would later be recognized as the mid century modernist movement. He believed strongly that the whole field of design is all one body. He had three design principles – Function, Structure and being part of the time.

About Vintage Cashmere Wool

It’s not just wool, the fabric of this reproduction is made of Cashmere Wool. Cashmere Wool is the finest grade of wools. Cashmere sheep produce a double fleece that consists of a fine, soft undercoat. It is comfortable as it breathes naturally and features inherently stain resistant qualities. If you are not getting Cashmere Wool, you are not getting the best.

The best value for those looking for a full service delivery experience with no lifting or physical effort involved. A team of 2 rigorously screened home delivery professionals arrive on a day and time prescheduled with you. Your furnishings are brought into your home and placed in the desired location in the room(s) of your choice. The furniture is removed from the packaging/boxes. The old packaging material is then placed in a designated location.

Perhaps you need door(s) removed and replaced? Maybe you live in a condo or high rise building? Maybe there are flight(s) of stairs to climb? The safe arrival of your items is guaranteed and no obstacle is too large. We will do anything necessary to complete your delivery with quality, care and a smile. Average delivery times are 9-12 business days from the day your order leaves the Kardiel warehouse.

Curbside Residential Delivery

This economical delivery option brings your new furnishings direct to your home or business. The term curbside indicates that the items are brought to the "curb" but not inside the home.

This is a signed delivery option which means you will need to be present to accept the delivery. You will need to be prepared to carry the items into your home or office as this service does not include inside delivery. Tracking numbers are provided within 24 hours of your order leaving the Kardiel warehouse. Average delivery times nationwide for this service are 7-10 business days from the day the shipment leaves the Kardiel warehouse. The delivery is guaranteed safe when you inspect and sign with the driver for any potential shipping damage. The delivery company calls to schedule the delivery date and window of time as the arrival date of your items draws closer.

Hawaii & Alaska

Hawaii & Alaska orders allow average 12-18 business days for arrival. Tracking numbers will be provided. Alaska and Hawaii orders are not eligible for advertised "continental U.S" shipping promotions. As over water transport is involved, the shopping cart will not calculate
