'Signs' Wall Art 40''x30''

In Stephane Fontaine's 'Signs,' abstract etchings mark an expanse of charcoal black. This is from an ongoing series of meditations on semiotics and explorations into the origin of signs in human society. The artist begins his contemplative work by creating a cave-like texture with a plaster mix. He then carves lines into the plaster, creating depth and adding to the narrative of fading, older symbols. Reproduced here to emulate the artist's original techniques. Hangs in two orientations.
