Crafting the Icon

In 1945, Finn Juhl introduced the original model 45 chair, which broke from traditional armchair design by freeing the seat and back from the chair's frame. This design created a floating visual effect and an architecturally intriguing frame. This high-quality reproduction features a solid American Ash frame, achieving a wind-swept appearance by drawing the arms upward and forward while the mid-seat frame section draws down and back. Comfort is provided by foam-wrapped and upholstered foam frames and plush multi-density seat cushions.

The subtle curve of the back follows the original intent, offering a seating experience that surrounds and cradles with comfort. The soft sculptural flow is achieved with rotated round timbers that arch and curve at select points rather than ending at sharp 90-degree edges. True to the original, natural solid American Ash is used to create the frame, with a walnut stain and clear polyurethane finish applied.
