Eleanor Mid-Century Modern Sofa

Eleanor in the premium Intuit Velvet owes its comfortable longevity to premium ingredients like the Metal Sinuous No Sag "S Coil" Suspension seat platform and amply overstuffed Down Feather Cushions. The Eleanor series, a clean modern take on the 1950’s classic #5150 model. Inspired by the midcentury modern designer Edward Wormley who's balanced approach to modernism is as appropriate today as ever. To quote Mr Wormley, "Modernism means the freedom to mix, to choose, to change, to embrace the new but to hold fast to what is good.”

MAKING THE ICON

Sleek rectangular shapes are represented in the design of both the seat and frame. Perhaps not so common with mid-century modern pieces, Eleanor successfully combines both comfortable seating with exceptional aesthetics. This is the result of the premium multi-density foam selected for the seat and back cushions as a base then stuffed with genuine down feathers. The seat platform features a traditional metal S Sinuous coil spring system. Just like the original design created in the 1950's the frame of Eleanor is hand crafted from solid kiln dried hardwood.

For ease of maintenance, button tufting is not present on the seat cushion. A single row of button tufting graces the back. No need to continually adjust the cushions as a constant well-tailored appearance is achieved from the full length seat cushion and affixed snug fitted back design. A gently cushioned frame and matching piping at the seams accentuate the minimalist lines. The wooden aspect of the genuine hardwood legs creates a sense of grounding. The stiletto design of the legs lifts Eleanor from the floor providing the spacious midcentury modern feel.

About Plush Velvet

Velvet in general is a soft pile fabric that has been woven since the beginning of the middle ages. It is soft to the touch with a distinctive nap. It is woven on a loom unique to velvet fabrics. Often used on modern furniture where a clean appearance is desired, Micro-velvet is a form of a standard velvet fabric. The micro-velvet variety is considered a lower maintenance fabric. It features a low nap which reduces the light and dark variation of a traditional crushed velvet. The fabric is durable, forms well with curve & tufting work. It features a warm appearance and a soft to the touch surface. Velvet as a term refers to the fabric style not the fabric content. Velvet's are made from a variety of fabric types.
